Homosexuality and marriage in India

india-gay-parade-2009“Marriage” the union of a man and a woman is considered as one of the most sacred acts in India. Same-sex marriage or gender neutral marriage is at the foreground of the gay rights movement overturning tradition, an effort to secure a legal basis of sexual freedom. Homosexuals were required to keep their acts hidden, protecting society. Support for same sex marriage is often based upon universal human rights issues, equality under the law, and the goal to normalize LGBT relationships. The new millennium has brought great changes even in India.

Opposition to this marriage is often based on the inclusion of same sex couples in the word “marriage”. Though other reason are direct and indirect social consequences of same sex marriages, parenting concerns, religious grounds and traditions. Social conservatives regard same sex marriage as immoral, and argue the word “marriage”. Lacks of commitment in the real sense loom over the relationship to overthrow it over any time.

From movies to daily soaps, the younger generations, though a very few, has started leading a very liberal lifestyle.
