2,000 applications for Malaysian citizenship approved

Malaysia has approved 2,000 applications by the Indian community for Malaysian citizenship and permanent residents. Pantaloon spinning off Big Bazaar

India’s largest listed retailer Pantaloon Retail Ltd said its board has approved spinning off its Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar operations and all related formats into a wholly-owned subsidiary to raise funds. In a statement on Friday, the board also approved consolidating Pantaloon’s holdings in Future Capital Holdings and insurance joints venture firms into a single entity. Pantaloon runs 119 Big Bazaar stores in India and plans to have 275 stores by 2014.

Woman in iron lung for 60 years dies

June Middleton, a Melbourne woman who contracted polio at the age of 22 and spent 60 years of her life in an iron lung died at Thornbury Nursing Home on Friday. She was 83. She made to the Guinness World Records in 2006 for spending the longest time in an iron lung. According to News.com.au reports, she celebrated 60 years with friends and her dog, Angel, by her side at her home at Yooralla’s Ventilator Accommodation Support Service (VASS).

Mexican actress Salma Hayek regrets the moustache she grew to play Frida Kahlo in the film ‘Frida’. According to imdb.com reports she feared that she wouldn’t be able to pull off the artist’s look if she faked a hairy top lip so she started shaving her face to have bristles grow back thick and darker. Anderson denies ‘Trojan’ webcam virus

Matthew Anderson, 32, an IT expert from Scotland, has denied sending out a computer virus which allows him to spy on strangers using their webcams. He appeared at Southwark Crown Court in Central London. He is accused of spreading millions of ‘Trojan’ bugs which could control computers. It’s alleged that he conspired with another man in 2005 and 2006.

From 1st Nov, no prepaid mobile in J&K

After 1st November, 2009, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided that no prepaid mobile connections should be issued and existing prepaid SIM cards should not be renewed in Jammu and Kashmir. The move comes after reports that militants were getting mobile SIM cards on fake documents. Proper verification is not being done while providing prepaid mobile connections by the service providers or vendors. Airtel joins tariff war

Bharti Airtel, India’s largest mobile operator joins tariff war introducing pay-per-second plan, called Freedom Plan on Friday across the country. Airtel customers will be charged one paise per second for all local and STD calls to Airtel numbers and 1.20 paise per second for local and STD calls to other networks, in this plan.
