Malaysia has approved 2,000 applications by the Indian community for Malaysian citizenship and permanent residents.
At a dinner last night organized by Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said, “The applications were approved since the applicants has been loyal to this country and some had been waiting for many years to become Malaysian citizens”.
He further said that Indians had worked hard to earn a decent leaving and had contributed to the development of the country and 2,220 of the 3,335 applications had been approved. He asked the Home Minister to step up the process of approving the outstanding applications for permanent resident and citizenship.
Many ethnic Indians in the country fail to register birth of their children who later faces difficulties in getting into schools due to lack of documents.
