In the wake of ongoing demonstration by students to protest against the murder of a final year BSc student, Shahnawaz over road rage, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was closed today, with immediate effect till further orders.
A senior district administration official said that all the students have been asked to vacate the hostels and Rapid Action Force has been deployed in and around the university campus as a precautionary measure.
AMU students have been protesting since Monday. The protesters were demanding ouster of vice-chancellor P K Abdul Azis and others. They alleged that Shahnawaz was killed when he went out for food and that the university authorities had prevented the students to hold elections, thereby denying them a proper platform to raise questions.
