Mystery tribute channel to Saddam Hussein drops off Iraqi TV

A mystery channel dedicated to the former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has dropped off the airwaves just three days after it first began broadcasting. The chairman of the channel told The Associated Press that it will return by the weekend, after a technology upgrade to make the broadcast stronger. Iraqi government officials have said they suspect the channel was run by Baathists whose political party Saddam once led.

Serena Williams fined $175,000

The Grand Slam Committee said on Monday that World number one Serena Williams has been fined $175,000 and put on probation for two years for her foul-mouthed outburst at the U.S. Open. The committee said a further major offence at a grand slam in the next two years would see her suspended from the U.S. Open in 2010, 2011 or 2012. Jay-Z and The Strokes for Wight festival

Jay-Z and The Strokes will play next year’s Isle Of Wight festival, held at Seaclose Park, Newport. The three day festival takes place on 11th to 13th June 2010 and will also see performance from Pink, Orbital and Blondie. Tickets for the festival will go on sale from 4th December, 2009. Last year’s event was headlined by The Prodigy, Stereophonics and Neil Young. Made famous in the late 1960s, the Isle Of Wight festival is now in its ninth year having revived in 2002.

Goldstriker International, a Liverpool based British company has unveiled a gold iPhone encrusted with nearly 200 diamonds- the world’s most expensive mobile phone. The price is 1.92 million pounds or 14.7 crore. The phone is called iPhone 3G Supreme. The mobile phone is designed by Stuart Hughes for Goldstriker International and made from 22 carat gold.
